Wharton Faculty & Staff >> Biography
Yin L. Yin is the Asia Business Development Manager at Silver Spring Networks, the leader in Smart Grid networking solutions that enable utilities and consumers deliver and use energy more efficiently. Previously, she headed Strategic Planning and Marketing at Bay Area- and China-based Sunpreme, an early stage solar cell start-up with a low-cost thin film-on-MgSi technology. Prior to her switch into clean tech, she was a Project Leader at The Boston Consulting Group, based both in Berlin, Germany and Beijing, China. At BCG, Yin focused on helping numerous leading multinational companies across diverse industries devise emerging market growth strategies. After accumulating hundreds of thousands of airline miles, she is now intent on undoing her egregious personal carbon footprint and contribute her strategy skills to an industry that will one day allow her to return to her birthplace of China without fearing negative consequences to her health.
She is a Beijing-born, Germany-raised, US-educated Canadian citizen, and proud alumna of Wharton’s MBA Program, as well as Penn/Wharton’s joint-degree Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business. Since graduation, she has continued to contribute to the alumni community as an active interviewer for both Penn undergrad and Wharton MBA admissions, as well as an officer of the Wharton Club of Germany/Austria and Penn Club of Beijing.
While on campus, Yin honed her performance skills as a Wharton Follies cast member and co-founder/President of PennYo, the first collegiate Chinese a cappella group, which has since released three albums and completed two international tours. Yin is extremely honored to once again return to the stage as this year’s Wharton Alumni Forum co-MC, after having teamed up with Jing at the 2009 Beijing Forum.
